What is NATO?
The North Atlantic Treaty Organization is an intergovernmental military alliance between 29 North American and European countries.
Its purpose is to guarantee the freedom and security of its members through political and military means and it is founded on the principle of collective defence which means that an attack against one or several of its members is considered as an attack against all.

Missions around the world
NATO takes an active role in a broad range of crisis-management operations and missions, including civil emergency.
The NATO is committed to the peaceful resolution of disputes. However, if diplomatic efforts fail, it has the military capacity to undertake crisis management operations.
Approximately 20,000 soldiers are engaged in NATO missions around the world, managing often complex operations in all types of environment.

Nato has carried out important operations in Afghanistan, Kosovo and the Mediterranean
- Since 2018, NATO has been leading a TRAINING MISSION IN IRAQ, with the purpose of developing the capacity of Iraq’s security forces.
- It is also supporting the AFRICAN UNION and conducting air policing missions.
- It is assisting with the response to the REFUGEE AND MIGRANT CRISIS in Europe.
- It also carries out DISASTER RELIEF OPERATIONS and missions to protect populations against natural, technological or humanitarian disasters
